Sport is a vital part of every culture. Since the late 1800s in the Central Okanagan, our sport heritage has grown richer to reflect our vibrant and growing community.

Innovative pioneers played hockey on frozen lakes, organized polo matches on the natural open grasslands, rowed in local regattas, and competed in all manner of sporting events up and down the Okanagan Valley and beyond. As our community grew, our sport heritage took on a new and greater importance. It ties us together, it spurs us on to better ourselves, and it speaks volumes about our collective self-confidence.

The Central Okanagan Sports Hall of Fame Museum interprets our community’s long and vibrant sport history and it celebrates and honours those who inspire us even more through their dedication to sport and through the success of their efforts. One good measure of a healthy community is the strength of its sport heritage, and the exciting spirit of the Central Okanagan shines through the talented competition and keen promotion of sports that demonstrates all the best values of human endeavour.

As we tell these stories, we hope you will join us in supporting, celebrating, and honouring the sport legacy we have inherited and the one we are creating today.

The Kelowna Museums Society and the Sports Legacy Committee are proud to introduce the newly developed Central Okanagan Sports Hall of Fame Museum.

The vision of the Committee is to create a dynamic and accessible Sports Hall of Fame that will be dedicated to the legacy of sports in the Central Okanagan. This will also be an opportunity to recognize those people whose commitment to sports in our region inspire all of us to pursue excellence in sport and in our community.

The mission of the Sports Legacy Committee is to preserve and interpret the sports history of the Central Okanagan and to promote the healthy quality of life that comes through the inspiration of those who have gone above and beyond in sports and its promotion.

The Central Okanagan Sports Hall of Fame Museum recognizes achievement and excellence in sports within the Central Okanagan region: the City of Kelowna, District of Lake Country, District of Peachland, and West Kelowna.

Each year, the Sports Legacy Committee will honour inductee(s) into the Sports Hall of Fame. The inductee(s) will be selected from nominations made by the community in the categories of Athlete, Team, and Builder. Criteria will look at levels of participation, accomplishment, and contributions in each of the nomination categories.
